A new Chairman has been elected to replace Gerald Sweitzer, who has served as Chair since the Implementation Process began January 2008. Prior to that Sweitzer was Co-Chair of the Steering Committee that created the Vision Plan. The new Chairman is Michael Sheriff, a licensed practicing Architect, who twice served as President of the Spartanburg Section of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He is serving his third term on Liberty City Council, and is Mayor Pro Tem. He is a graduate of Leadership Pickens County and served as Chairman of the Leadership Pickens County Board of Regents for 2005-2006. He currently serves on the Pickens County Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals for Building Codes. Rick Murphy is the new Vice Chairman, and is Regional Education Career Coordinator for the Pendleton Region covering Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens County. He has 30 years experience in education, holding teaching, counseling, and administrative positions in both secondary and post-secondary education. He serves as Chairman of the Pickens County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, and was chair of the City of Pickens Planning Commission.
