Tri-County Equestrian Initiative

The 3 county equestrian initiative has progressed to the creation of a non-profit corporation, and a board of directors to pursue the recreation, tourism, and economic development potential of a facility to serve Pickens, Anderson, & Oconee counties. With attendance of between 60 to 100 people representing the equestrian interest in all three counties, the group is working with the Garrison Arena as the site for equestrian events.

Jim Capaldi (member of the Sense of Place committee) is a member of the Board of Directors, and Gerald Sweitzer is assisting with the application to become a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Others from Pickens County will be added to the Board, and subcommittees.

SP-19 calls for the inclusion of an equestrian element in recreation ooptions.  This objective will also play a significant role in bringing more tourism dollars to the three counties.
Biking in Pickens County Progress
With the help of members of the Sense of Place Committee, a comprehensive Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan has now been presented to the City of Easley Council.  We have the plan in PDF attached to the Sense of Place page on our website.   The city council votef to adopt the plan & implement it over coming months & years .  This major step will encourage other cities in the county to consider similar bike and pedrestian friendly plans in their respective cities, with the city of Pickens already expressing an interest.
